"'যাচ্ছি বাবা', বলে চিরতরেই চলে গেল; সে আর কখনও ফিরে আসবে না আমাদের কাছে," কথাগুলো আবেগাপ্লুত হয়ে বলছিলেন শেখ ফাহমিন জাফরের বাবা শেখ আবু জাফর।

শেখ ফাহমিন জাফর গাজীপুরের টঙ্গী সরকারি কলেজে বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের প্রথম বর্ষের শিক্ষার্থী ছিলেন। গত ১৮ জুলাই উত্তরার আজমপুরে কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনের সময় সংঘর্ষে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে নিহত হন তিনি।

নিহত হওয়ার আগে, সকাল সাড়ে ১০টার দিকে ফাহমিন তার বাবার সঙ্গে ফোনে কথা বলেন। আবু জাফর ছেলেকে ফোনে বলেছিলেন, "বাবা, তুমি এখন বাইরে কেন, বাসায় যাও বাবা।" উত্তরে ফাহমিন বলেছিলেন, "যাচ্ছি বাবা"। কিন্তু এটাই যে তার শেষ যাওয়া হবে, তা বুঝে উঠতে পারেননি শেখ আবু জাফর। ছেলের সঙ্গে এটিই ছিল তার শেষ কথা।

রোববার বিকেলে শেখ আবু জাফর মুঠোফোনে কথাগুলো বলছিলেন এই প্রতিবেদককে। শেখ আবু জাফর বর্তমানে থাকেন রাজশাহী নগরীর বোসপাড়া এলাকায়। তিনি রাজশাহীতে একটি ইন্সুরেন্স কোম্পানিতে চাকরিরত। তার তিন ছেলের মধ্যে শেখ ফাহমিন জাফর ছিলেন সবার ছোট।

ফাহমিন রাজশাহীর অন্যতম স্কুল রাজশাহী কলেজিয়েট স্কুল থেকে ২০২৩ সালে এসএসসি পাশ করে টঙ্গী সরকারি কলেজে বিজ্ঞান বিভাগে প্রথম বর্ষে ভর্তি হয়েছিলেন। গত ১১ জুলাই তার প্রথম বর্ষ ফাইনাল পরীক্ষা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

বাবা আবু জাফর আরও  জানান, "ঢাকার দক্ষিণখান এলাকায় তার মাকে সাথে নিয়ে মামার বাড়িতে থাকতো ফাহমিন। ছেলেকে পড়ালেখা করানোর জন্যই মা কাজী লুলুল মাকমিন রাজশাহী ছেড়ে ঢাকার দক্ষিণখানে তার ভাইয়ের বাড়িতে থাকা শুরু করেছিলেন। ওই বাসা থেকেই ফাহমিন কলেজে যাতায়াত করতো।"

বাবা আরও জানান, "ফাহমিনের বড় হয়ে প্রকৌশলী হওয়ার ইচ্ছা ছিল। তার সেই স্বপ্ন আর পূরণ হলো না।"

১৮ জুলাই দুপুরের দিকে গুলিবিদ্ধ ফাহমিনকে একটি মার্কেটের সিঁড়ি থেকে উদ্ধার করে তার বন্ধুরা উত্তরার ক্রিসেন্ট হাসপাতালে নিয়ে গেলেও বাঁচানো সম্ভব হয়নি তাঁকে। ডান হাতের পেছনে পিঠের কাছে ছররা গুলিতে মৃত্যু হয় শেখ ফাহমিন জাফরের। ঢাকা থেকে লাশ আসলে পরদিন নওগাঁর আত্রাইয়ের তারাটিয়া গ্রামে তার দাফন সম্পন্ন হয়।

শেখ ফাহমিন জাফরের মা কাজী লুলুল মাকমিন সন্তানের শোকে ভেঙে পড়েছেন। বিশ্বাস করতে পারছেন না তার আদরের সন্তান আর বেঁচে নেই।

মা কাজী লুলুল মাকমিন বলেন, "ফাহমিন কোলঘেঁষা সন্তান ছিল আমার। মাকেও খুব আদর-যত্ন করতো। খুব মেধাবী ছিল আমার ছেলে; কবিতা লিখতো, অভিনয় করতো, বিভিন্ন সাংস্কৃতিক কর্মকাণ্ডে অংশ নিতো। ছবি আকাঁনো না শেখানো সত্ত্বেও ভালো ছবি আঁকতো। কলেজিয়েট স্কুলে থাকতে ম্যাথ অলিম্পিয়াডেও পুরস্কারও পেয়েছিল।"

"আমাদের ইচ্ছা ছিল ও ডাক্তার হবে। কিন্তু ওর ইচ্ছা ছিল প্রকৌশলী হওয়ার; বুয়েটে পড়ার। আমরা তার ইচ্ছাকে গুরুত্ব দিতাম।"

ফাহমিনের মা আরও জানান, "ঘটনার দিন সকাল ১০টার দিক বাসা থেকে বের হয়ে যায় ফাহমিন। যাওয়ার সময় আমার কাছ থেকে দোয়া নিয়ে যায়। ন্যায্য দাবি বলে আমি কখনো তাকে নিষেধ করিনি। সাড়ে ১০টার দিকে ফাহমিন তার বাবার সাথে কথা বলে। দুপুর ২টার পর খবর পাই ফাহমিন গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে হাসপাতালে।"

"'I'm going, father', he said and left forever; he will never come back to us," said Sheikh Abu Jafar, the father of Sheikh Fahmin Jafar, in an emotional tone.

Sheikh Fahmin Jafar was a first-year student in the science department at Tongi Government College in Gazipur. He was killed in a clash during the quota reform movement in Azampur, Uttara on July 18.

Before his death, Fahmin had a phone conversation with his father around 10:30 am. Abu Jafar had told his son over the phone, "Father, why are you outside, go home, father." In response, Fahmin had said, "I'm going, father". However, Abu Jafar did not realize that this would be his last conversation with his son.

On Sunday afternoon, Sheikh Abu Jafar was talking to this reporter over the phone. Sheikh Abu Jafar currently lives in the Bospara area of Rajshahi city. He works for an insurance company in Rajshahi. Among his three sons, Sheikh Fahmin Jafar was the youngest.

Fahmin had passed his SSC exam from Rajshahi Collegiate School in 2023 and was admitted to the science department of Tongi Government College. His first-year final exam was held on July 11.

His father, Abu Jafar, further said, "Fahmin used to live with his mother in his uncle's house in the Dakshin Khan area of Dhaka. His mother, Kazee Lulul Makmin, had moved to Dhaka from Rajshahi so that Fahmin could continue his studies. Fahmin would commute to college from that house."

Abu Jafar also said, "Fahmin had a dream of becoming an engineer. That dream will never be fulfilled."

On July 18, around noon, Fahmin was shot and his friends took him to Crescent Hospital in Uttara, but he could not be saved. Sheikh Fahmin Jafar died from a gunshot wound on the back of his right hand. His body was taken to his village in Atrai, Naogaon, and he was buried the next day.

Sheikh Fahmin Jafar's mother, Kazee Lulul Makmin, is devastated by the loss of her child. She cannot believe that her beloved son is no more.

Kazee Lulul Makmin said, "Fahmin was a very affectionate child. He loved his mother very much. He was very talented; he would write poems, act, and participate in various cultural activities. He would draw pictures without even being taught. He had won an award in the math olympiad while he was in school."

"We wanted him to be a doctor, but he wanted to be an engineer; he wanted to study at BUET. We respected his wishes."

Fahmin's mother further said, "On the day of the incident, Fahmin left the house around 10 am. He took my blessings before leaving. I never forbade him from expressing his rightful demands. Around 10:30 am, Fahmin talked to his father. After 2 pm, I received the news that Fahmin had been shot and taken to the hospital."
