ঢাকা, ২২ ডিসেম্বর, ২০২৪ (বাসস): শহিদ হওয়ার দিনও জোবায়ের বেপারী তাঁর স্ত্রীকে বলেছিলেন, ‘দেখো, আজকেই হাসিনার শেষ দিন।’ তিনি সবসময়ই তাঁর স্ত্রীকে বলতেন, ‘স্বৈরাচার সরকার আমরা নামাবোই, নামায়াই ছাড়বো।’ ফ্যাসিস্ট হাসিনার পতন হয়েছে ঠিকই। কিন্তু তা এক সাগর রক্তের বিনিময়ে। সেটাও দেখে যেতে পারেননি শহিদ জোবায়ের। তার আগে ১৯ জুলাই সন্ধ্যার ঠিক আগে গুলিতে প্রাণ হারান তিনি। এদিকে ঠিক আগের দিন ১৮ই জুলাই উত্তরার বুকে যেন নেমে এসেছিল রোজ কিয়ামত। রাজধানী ঢাকার উত্তর প্রবেশ পথ উত্তরা। এ জনপদের মানুষ একদিনে এতো লাশ এর আগে দেখেনি কোনদিন। মৃত্যুর এত বিভীষিকা দেখেও রাজপথের সংগ্রামীরা পিছু হটেননি। একটুও বিচলিত হননি। তারা আবার পরদিন শুক্রবার বারোটার দিকে ঢাকা-ময়মনসিংহ মহাসড়ক দখলে নেয়। আর এ আন্দোলনে একেবারে সামনের সারির নেতৃত্বে ছিলেন শহিদ মো. জোবায়ের বেপারী (৪২)। মাত্র ২৩ বছর বয়সে বিধবা হওয়া শহীদের স্ত্রী চাঁদ মনি বলেন, ‘তিনি আজীবন প্রতিবাদী ছিলেন। আন্দোলন-সংগ্রামের ডাক আসলে তিনি ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়তেন। তারই ধারাবাহিকতায় এবারের বৈষম্য বিরোধী আন্দোলনেও পহেলা জুলাই থেকে মৃত্যুর আগ পর্যন্ত উত্তরায় এবং ঢাকার রাজপথে সমানভাবে সক্রিয় ছিলেন। প্রতিদিন মিছিল মিটিংয়ে অংশগ্রহণ করতেন এবং বাসায় এসে খুব উত্তেজিত হয়ে তার বর্ণনা দিতেন।’ ... এ প্রসঙ্গে রাষ্ট্রীয় সংবাদ সংস্থা বাসস’র প্রতিনিধির কাছে তাঁর বাবা কাঁদতে কাঁদতে বলেন, ‘আমাকে এখন ডাক্তারের কাছে কে নিয়ে যাবে? আমার হাতের ন্যাওটা [সার্বক্ষণিক সঙ্গী] ছিল আমার এই সন্তানটা। সাবেক এমপি কুখ্যাত হাবিব হাসান ও খসরু চৌধুরীর লোকেরা আমার ছেলেটাকে টার্গেট করে মেরেছে। আমার জমি-জমা নিয়ে হাবিব হাসানের লোকজন খুব জ্বালাতন করতো। এসব ব্যাপারে সবসময় ছেলেটা প্রতিবাদ করতো। এই প্রতিবাদটাই ওর জন্য কাল হলো। ও বিএনপির রাজনীতির সাথে জড়িত ছিল। সেচ্ছাসেবক দল করতো।’ জোবায়েরের সাত বছরের সংসারে দু’টি ফুটফুটে বাচ্চা রয়েছে। মৃত্যুর কিছুদিন পরই তাদের সপ্তম বিবাহ বার্ষিকী ছিল। বড় ছেলে জায়ান (৬) প্লে গ্রুপে এবং ছোট ছেলে রাইয়ান (৪) নার্সারিতে পড়ে। পিঠাপিঠি দুই ভাই ওরা এখনো বোঝে না ওদের বাবা আর নেই। সরকারি বা বেসরকারি কোন সহযোগিতা পেয়েছেন কিনা? জানতে চাইলে শহিদের স্ত্রী বলেন, ‘আমরা সরকারি কোন রকম সহযোগিতা এখন পর্যন্ত পাইনি। জামায়াতে ইসলামীর কাছ থেকে ২ লক্ষ টাকা এবং বিএনপি’র কাছ থেকে ১ লাখ টাকা পেয়েছি।’

তিনি উত্তরা আজমপুরে পুলিশের গুলিতে গুলিবিদ্ধ হন। খোঁজ নিয়ে ও প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীদের সাথে কথা বলে জানা যায়, উত্তরার যে কোন আন্দোলন সংগ্রামকে সাবেক এমপি হাবিব হাসান এবং তার পুরো পরিবার নির্মমভাবে দমন করতো। তার ব্যতিক্রম হয়নি এবারের বৈষম্য বিরোধী আন্দোলনেও। হাবিব হাসানের ছেলে আবির হাসান তামিম এবং তার আপন ছোট ভাই আলাউদ্দিন সোহেল দলবল নিয়ে সাবেক এমপির নেতৃত্বে পুরো আন্দোলনের সময় বারবার অস্ত্র হাতে সরাসরি আক্রমণ চালিয়েছে। এ সংক্রান্ত বেশ কিছু ফুটেজ সাংবাদিকদের কাছে সংরক্ষিত আছে। এ প্রসঙ্গে শহিদের মৃত্যুর সময় পাশে থাকা বস্ত্র প্রকৌশলী তালহা যুবায়ের সজিব (৩৫) বলেন, ‘১৯ জুলাই আমরা দুপুর থেকে সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত মিছিল-মিটিং নিয়ে উত্তরার রাজপথ দখলে রেখেছিলাম। সন্ধ্যার আগ দিয়ে পুলিশ ও সরকার দলীয় ক্যাডারদের ধাওয়া খেয়ে ৬ নম্বর সেক্টর বাংলাদেশ-কুয়েত মৈত্রী হাসপাতালের সামনে দিয়ে পূর্ব দিকে যাচ্ছিলাম। ওই দলে আমরা লোক ছিলাম ১০-১৫ জন। আমার পাশে ছিল শহিদ জোবায়ের। হঠাৎ করে কোন কিছু বুঝে উঠার আগেই পেছন থেকে একটি গুলি তার পিঠ ভেদ করে সামনে দিয়ে বেরিয়ে যায়। সাথে সাথে সে উপুড় হয়ে পড়ে যায়। আমরা দেখি জায়গাটা রক্তে ভেসে যাচ্ছে। পশ্চিম দিক হতে পুলিশ এবং লীগের ছোঁড়া গুলিতে সে শহিদ হয়। পুলিশের অস্ত্র নিয়ে লীগের ছেলেরা গুলি করছিল। গুলিটা শুধু ওকে টার্গেট করে করা হয়েছে।’ ঐদিন ঘটনাস্থলে এ প্রতিবেদকসহ বেশ কয়েকজন সাংবাদিক সংবাদ সংগ্রহের কাজে ছিলাম। আমরা পরবর্তীতে হাসপাতালে গিয়ে তার গায়ে বিদ্ধ বুলেটের ছবি তুলি। চাইনিজ রাইফেলের বড় গুলি। সেই বুলেটের ছবি এখনো বাসস’র কাছে সংরক্ষিত আছে। ওই গুলিতে জোবায়ের সাথে সাথে মারা যায়।

He always told his wife, 'We will bring down the authoritarian government, and we will make them fall.' The fascist Hasina's downfall has indeed happened, but at the cost of a sea of blood. Shahid Jobayer could not see that, as he was shot dead on the evening of 19 July. Meanwhile, the day before, on 18 July, a catastrophic event unfolded in Uttara, like the Day of Judgment. Uttara is the northern entrance to the capital city of Dhaka. The people of this area had never seen so many dead bodies in one day before. Despite witnessing such a horrific scene of death, the protesters on the streets did not retreat or get intimidated. They took to the streets again the next day, on Friday, around 12 pm, and occupied the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Shahid Md. Jobayer Bepari (42) was at the forefront of the leadership of this movement. Jobayer's wife, Chan Moni, who became a widow at just 23 years old, said, 'He was a lifelong protester. Whenever there was a call for protest or movement, he would jump into action. As a continuation of this, he was also actively involved in this year's anti-discrimination movement from the beginning, from 1 July until his death, in Uttara and on the streets of Dhaka. He participated in processions and meetings every day and would come home and excitedly describe the events to me.' In this context, Jobayer's father, speaking to a BSS correspondent, tearfully said, 'Who will take me to the doctor now? My child was my everything, my constant companion. Former MP Habib Hasan and Khasru Choudhury's men targeted and killed my son. Habib Hasan's men used to harass me a lot over my land. My son always protested against these things, and this protest became his death sentence. He was involved in BNP politics and used to organize volunteer teams.' Jobayer's seven-year-old family has two young children. His seventh wedding anniversary was just a few days after his death. The elder son, Jayan (6), is in the playgroup, and the younger son, Ryan (4), is in nursery school. The two brothers still do not understand that their father is no longer alive. When asked if they had received any government or non-government assistance, Jobayer's wife replied, 'We have not received any government assistance so far. We have received 200,000 taka from Jamaat-e-Islami and 100,000 taka from BNP.'

He was shot by police in Uttara Azampur. After making inquiries and talking to eyewitnesses, it is learned that former MP Habib Hasan and his entire family brutally suppressed any movement or protest in Uttara. This time's anti-discrimination movement was no exception. Habib Hasan's son Abir Hasan Tamim and his younger brother Alauddin Sohel led the attack with weapons in their hands, led by the former MP, throughout the protest. Several footages related to this are preserved by journalists. In this regard, Talha Yubayer Sajib, a textile engineer who was beside the martyr at the time of his death, said, "On July 19, we occupied the roads of Uttara from noon to evening with processions and meetings. Before evening, police and government party cadres chased us and we were heading east in front of Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hospital in Sector 6. There were 10-15 people in our group, including me. Shahid Jobair was beside me. Suddenly, before I could understand anything, a bullet pierced his back and came out from the front. He fell down instantly. We saw the place was filled with blood. He was martyred by police and League's gunfire coming from the west. The League men were firing with police weapons. The bullet was specifically targeted at him." On that day, several journalists, including this reporter, were present at the scene to collect news. We later went to the hospital and took pictures of the bullet wound on his body. It was a large bullet from a Chinese rifle. The picture of that bullet is still preserved by BAS. Jobair was killed by that bullet.
