‘বুলেট মাথার ভেতর দিয়ে ঢুকে নাঈমার মাথার মগজ ছিটকে বের হয়ে আসে, আর সেই মগজ আমার হাতে লেগে যায়। নিজের সন্তানের নির্মম বীভৎস মৃত্যু আমি কী করে ভুলে যাব। পুলিশ ইচ্ছে করে পাঁচতলায় আমার মেয়েকে লক্ষ্য করে গুলি ছুড়েছে। আমি নিজে দেখেছি পুলিশ বাসার দিকে তাক করে গুলি ছুড়ছে। আমি বুঝে উঠতে পারিনি। কিছু বুঝে ওঠার আগেই মেয়ে মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়েছে।’ কাঁদতে কাঁদতে কথাগুলো বলছিলেন জুলাই বিপ্লবে প্রথম নারী শহীদ নাঈমা সুলতানার মা আইনুন নাহার। নাঈমা সুলতানার বয়স ১৬ বছর। মাইলস্টোন স্কুলের বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের দশম শ্রেণির শিক্ষার্থী ছিল সে। রাজধানী উত্তরার ৭ নম্বর সেক্টরে একটি ভাড়া বাসায় থাকত নাঈমারা। তাদের তিন ভাই-বোনকে নিয়ে মা আইনুন নাহার থাকতেন এই বাসায়। বাবা পল্লিচিকিৎসক, গ্রাম থেকে যাওয়া-আসার মধ্যে থাকেন। ভবনের চারতলায় তাদের বাসা। মা আইনুন নাহার বলেন, ‘আমার বাড়ি, ব্যবসা সব গ্রামে। ঢাকায় এসেছি শুধু নাঈমার লেখাপড়ার জন্য। কোনো বিলাসিতা করি নাই, মেয়ের পড়াশোনার খরচ জোগাতে গিয়ে, সব টাকা-পয়সা তার পেছনে খরচ করেছি। মেয়েটা অত্যন্ত মেধাবী ছিল। বলেছি এ মেয়েই আমার সম্পদ। আমার সেই মেয়েটা শেষ হয়ে গেল, আমার জীবনের সব শেষ।’ ২০২৪ সালের ১৯ জুলাই শুক্রবার পরিবারে নেমে আসে ভয়ানক শোকের ছায়া। তাদের বাসার একটু দূরে উত্তরা আধুনিক মেডিকেলের সামনে ছাত্র-জনতার সঙ্গে পুলিশ ও তাদের সহযোগী ছাত্রলীগ-যুবলীগের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষ বাধে। এ সময় অস্ত্রধারী ছাত্রলীগ নেতাকর্মী ও কিছু পুলিশ আশপাশের গলিতে ঢুকে এলোপাতাড়ি গুলি ছুড়তে থাকে। বিকাল আনুমানিক ৪টা। নাঈমা তার রুমে বসে ‘বয়কট ছাত্রলীগ’, ‘কোটা সংস্কার চাই’সহ নানা স্লোগানে রঙিন কালিতে প্রতিবাদী পোস্টার আঁকছিল। এ অবস্থায় বাসার সামনে চিৎকার-চেঁচামেচির শব্দে দৌড়ে বারান্দায় আসে দেখতে। তার বাসার নিচে তখন আন্দোলনকারীদের লক্ষ্য করে পুলিশ গুলি ছুড়ছিল। তখন হাতে থাকা মোবাইলে ভিডিও অন করে নিচের দিকে তাক করতেই তাকে লক্ষ্য করে গুলি ছোড়ে পুলিশ। গুলির আঘাতে মুহূর্তেই মেঝেতে লুটিয়ে পড়ে নাঈমা। নাঈমার মাথার একপাশ দিয়ে গুলি ঢুকে আরেক পাশ দিয়ে বেরিয়ে যায়। মেঝেতে মগজ ছিটিয়ে পড়ে। গুলি লাগার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সে শুধু একটাই শব্দ করতে পেরেছিল, ‘মা...আ...!’ পেছনে রুমে থাকা মা ও বড় বোন তার শেষ শব্দটি শুনে ‘কী হইছে’ বলে দৌড়ে বারান্দায় এসে দেখে, নাঈমা মেঝেতে লুটিয়ে পড়েছে। মাথা দিয়ে রক্ত ঝরছে। সারা বারান্দায় ছড়িয়ে গেছে তার রক্ত। মেয়ের এ অবস্থা দেখে মা জ্ঞান হারান। বোনের কান্নার আওয়াজে আশপাশের ফ্ল্যাট ও নিচে থাকা ছাত্ররা এসে ধরাধরি করে নাঈমাকে নিয়ে যায় উত্তরা আধুনিক মেডিকেলে। কিন্তু তার আগেই পৃথিবী থেকে বিদায় নেয় নাঈমা। এদিকে রাতেই নাঈমার লাশ নেওয়া হয় গ্রামের বাড়ি চাঁদপুরের মতলব উত্তরের আমুয়াকান্দা গ্রামে। পথে পুলিশের নানা হয়রানির শিকার হতে হয় স্বজনদের। কোথা থেকে এসেছে এ লাশ, কীভাবে মারা গেছে, কোথায় যাচ্ছে—নানা প্রশ্ন। পরদিন সকাল সাড়ে ৯টায় জানাজা শেষে পারিবারিক কবরস্থানে দাফন করা হয় নাঈমাকে। পরিবার সূত্রে জানা যায়, উত্তাল জুলাইয়ের সেই সময়ে নাঈমার অবসর কাটত আঁকাআঁকিতে। কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনের শুরুতে বাসায় বসে বসে খাতায় নানা স্লোগানসংবলিত প্রতিবাদী ছবি এঁকে সময় পার করেছে। মারা যাওয়ার আগের দিন ২০২৪ সালের ১৮ জুলাই রাজধানীর উত্তরায় পুলিশের গুলিতে প্রায় ৩০ জন ছাত্র-জনতা মারা যান। ওইদিন রাতে নাঈমা আন্দোলনের পোস্টার আঁকছিল, আর মায়ের সঙ্গে গল্প করছিল। একপর্যায়ে মাকে বলে, ‘আম্মু, ধর আমি যদি আন্দোলনে গিয়ে মারা যাই, তুমি মানুষকে কী বলবা?’ মাকে জবাব দেওয়ার সুযোগ না দিয়ে আবার নিজেই বলে ওঠে, ‘বলবা যে শহীদ হয়েছে। আমার মেয়ে শহীদ হয়েছে।’ "নাঈমা সুলতানা শহীদ হয়েছে"

These words were spoken by Ainun Nahar, the mother of Naima Sultana, the first female martyr of the July Revolution, while crying. Naima Sultana was 16 years old and a 10th-grade student in the science department of Milestone School. Naima and her family lived in a rented house in Sector 7 of Uttara, Dhaka. Her father is a veterinary physician and shuttles between their village home and Dhaka. They lived on the fourth floor of the building. Ainun Nahar said, "My home and business are in the village. I came to Dhaka only for Naima's education. I didn't indulge in any luxury, and I spent all my money on her education. She was very talented. I told her she was my only wealth. Now that she's gone, my life is over." On July 19, 2024, a tragic incident occurred. A clash broke out between students and police, as well as Chhatra League and Jubo League activists, near Naima's house. Armed Chhatra League leaders and some police officers entered the nearby alleys and fired randomly. At around 4 pm, Naima was drawing posters with colorful markers in her room, featuring slogans like "Boycott Chhatra League" and "We want quota reform." She heard the chaos and ran to the balcony to see what was happening. The police were firing at the protesters below. Naima took out her phone to record a video, and as she looked down, the police shot her. The bullet entered one side of Naima's head and exited the other, splattering her brain on the floor. She only managed to say "Ma...a..." before falling to the ground. Her mother and older sister, who were in the room, heard her cry out and rushed to the balcony, where they found Naima lying on the floor with blood pouring out of her head. The family took Naima to Uttara Modern Medical College, but she had already passed away. Naima's body was taken to their village home in Amuakanda, Matlab North, Chandpur, the same night. The family faced harassment from the police along the way. They were asked where they were coming from, how Naima died, and where they were going. The next morning, Naima was buried in the family graveyard after a funeral prayer. According to family sources, Naima spent her free time drawing during the turbulent July period. At the beginning of the quota reform movement, she drew protest posters in her notebook while staying at home. The day before she died, on July 18, 2024, around 30 students and civilians were killed in police firing in Uttara, Dhaka. That night, Naima was drawing posters for the movement and talking to her mother. At one point, she asked, "Mom, if I go to the protest and get killed, what will you tell people?" Without giving her mother a chance to respond, she said, "You'll say I'm a martyr. My daughter is a martyr." Naima Sultana is a martyr.

Last Friday, she was shot and killed on the balcony on the fourth floor of an apartment on Road 5 in Uttara.
