‘মঈনুলকে নিয়ে আমার অনেক স্বপ্ন ছিল। সে আমার সব ইচ্ছা পূরণ করতে চেয়েছিল। কিন্তু সেই স্বপ্ন ভেঙে চুরমার হয়ে গেল। এখন আমি কি আশা নিয়ে বাঁচবো? আমি আমার সন্তান হারানোর বিচার চাই। যারা আমার সন্তানকে গুলি করেছে তাদের যেন দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি হয়। তবে দুনিয়ায় বিচার না পেলেও, আল্লাহর কাছে বিচার চাই। আল্লাহ এর বিচার করবে।’

এভাবেই কথাগুলো বলতে বলতে কান্নায় ভেঙে পড়েন গত ২১ জুলাই বৈষম্য বিরোধী ছাত্র-জনতার আন্দোলনে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে মারা যাওয়া হাফেজ মাওলানা মঈনুল ইসলামের মা মাহফুজা বেগম।

গোপালগঞ্জ সদর উপজেলার শুকতাইল ইউনিয়নের কেকানিয়া গ্রামের কামরুল ইসলাম ও মাহফুজা বেগম দম্পত্তির বড় সন্তান হাফেজ মাওলানা মঈনুল ইসলাম (২৫)। রাজধানীর যাত্রাবাড়ির মাতুয়াইল এলাকায় থেকে মুফতি পড়াশোনা করতেন। পাশাপাশি ওই এলাকার আহসানুল হিকমাহ মাদ্রাসায় শিক্ষকতা করতেন।

শহিদের পরিবার সূত্রে জানা গেছে, ২১ জুলাই দুপুরে বাসা থেকে মাদ্রাসায় যাচ্ছিলেন মঈনুল। এ সময় ছাত্র-জনতা ও পুলিশের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষ চলছিল। ওপর থেকে ছোঁড়া গুলি মঈনুলের ঘাড়ে লেগে আহত হন তিনি। স্থানীয়রা তাকে উদ্ধার করে প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা শেষে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নিয়ে ভর্তি করেন। পাঁচদিন লাইফ সাপোর্টে থাকার পর ২৬ জুলাই রাতে সেখানে মারা যান। জানাজা শেষে মঈনুলের মরদেহ স্থানীয় কবরস্থানে দাফন করা হয়।

মঈনুলের বাবা কামরুল ইসলাম ফরিদপুরের পূর্ব খাবাসপুর জামে মসজিদে মুয়াজ্জিনের চাকরি করেন। মা মাহফুজা বেগম গৃহিণী। তিন ভাইয়ের মধ্যে মঈনুল ছিলেন সবার বড়।

মঈনুলের ছোট দুই ভাই মোস্তাফিজুর রহমান ও মাহমুদুল হাসান। তারা মাদারীপুরের শিবচর মাদ্রাসায় লেখাপড়া করেন। ছেলেদের মধ্যে মঈনুল ছিলেন একমাত্র উপার্জনক্ষম।

মঈনুলকে নিয়ে অনেক স্বপ্ন দেখতেন তার বাবা-মা ও ভাই-বোন।

শহিদ মঈনুল ইসলামের পরিবারকে জেলা জামায়াতের পক্ষ থেকে ১ লাখ ৫০ হাজার টাকা দেওয়া হয়েছে। এছাড়া তার স্ত্রী মাইমুনা আক্তারকে দেওয়া হয়েছে ৫০ হাজার টাকা।

মঈনুলের ছোট ভাই মো. মোস্তাফিজুর রহমান বলেন, ‘ভাইকে নিয়ে আমাদের অনেক স্বপ্ন ছিল। ভাই আমাদের দুই ভাইয়ের লেখাপড়ার খরচ চালাতো। এখন আমাদের লেখাপড়ার টাকা দেবে কে? আমার ভাইকে যারা গুলি করে হত্যা করেছে তাদের কঠিন বিচার চাই।’

শহিদ মঈনুলের মা মাহফুজা বেগম বাংলাদেশ সংবাদ সংস্থাকে বলেন, ‘আমার ছেলেদের মধ্যে মঈনুল একমাত্র উপার্জন কারী ছিল। অভাবের সংসার। তাই অনেক কষ্ট করে বাড়িতে টাকা পাঠাতো। তাঁর অনেক স্বপ্ন ছিল। অনেক টাকার মালিক হয়ে আমার সব স্বপ্ন পূরণ করবে। আমার মঈনুল ঘরের কাজ করা দেখে গেছে। কিন্তু ঘরটি সম্পন্ন করা দেখে যেতে পারেনি।’

তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘আমার ছেলে রুটি-গোশত খুব পছন্দ করতো। বাড়ি আসলে রুটি বানানোর সময় আমার পাশে বসে পেট ভরে রুটি খেতো। যাওয়ার সময় টিফিনবক্স ভরে রুটি দিতাম। এখন আমি কাকে রুটি বানিয়ে দেব? আমার ছেলেকে যারা কেড়ে নিয়েছে, তাদের বিচার আমি দেখে মরতে চাই। দুনিয়ায় বিচার না পেলে আল্লাহ যেন বিচার করেন। আল্লাহ আমার ছেলেকে শহীদি মর্যাদা দান করুক। মা হয়ে এছাড়া আর কিছু আমার বলার নেই।’

নিহত মঈনুলের বাবা মো. কামরুল ইসলাম বাংলাদেশ সংবাদ সংস্থাকে বলেন, ‘ঘটনার দিন আমি আসরের নামাজ শেষ করে দেখি আমার মোবাইল ফোনে একটি মিসকল। আমি ওই নম্বরে কল করলে এক ব্যক্তি ধরে বলেন, ‘আপনার ছেলে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়েছে। ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে ভর্তি আছে।’ আমি শুনে মাথা ঘুরে পড়ে যাই। আমার ইমাম সাহেব আমাকে টেনে উঠায়। পরে আমি হাঁটা শুরু করলে সবাই আমাকে নিষেধ করেন। বলেন আপনি এ পরিস্থিতির মধ্যে বের হবেন না। কোথায় গুলি খাবেন, কে জানে? তবুও আমি কোনো কথা না শুনে ফরিদপুর মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে ছুটে যাই। সেখানে গিয়ে ঢাকাগামী ফেরি পারাপারের একটি অ্যাম্বুলেন্স পাই। সেটিতে উঠে রাত ২টায় ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে গিয়ে পৌঁছাই। সেখানে গিয়ে দেখি আমার ছেলে মঈনুলের শরীর দিয়ে রক্তক্ষরণ হচ্ছে। খালি গায়ে শীতে কাঁপছে। দোকান থেকে একটি কম্বল কিনে এনে গায়ে দেই। পাঁচদিন পরে সে মারা যায়।’

নিহত মঈনুলের বাবা আরও বলেন, ‘মঈনুল আমার সংসারের অভাব-অনটন দূর করবে। তাকে নিয়ে অনেক স্বপ্ন দেখতাম। একটি গুলি আমার সব স্বপ্ন কেড়ে নিলো। আমি সন্তান হারিয়েছি, আমি জানি সন্তান হারানোর কতো কষ্ট। কেউ যেন আমার মতো সন্তান হারা না হয়।’

তিনি সঠিক তদন্ত করে জড়িতদের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তির দাবি জানান।

Speaking in this way, Mahfuja Begum, the mother of Hafez Maulana Mainul Islam, who was shot and killed during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 21, broke down in tears.

Mainul Islam (25) was the eldest son of Kamruul Islam and Mahfuja Begum of Kekania village in Shuktail Union of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila. He was studying in the capital's Matuail area to become a mufti and was also teaching at Ahsanul Hikmah Madrasa in the same area.

According to the family of the martyr, on July 21, Mainul was going to the madrasa from his home when there was a clash between the students and the police. He was shot in the neck and injured. Local people rescued him and gave him primary treatment before admitting him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He died on the night of July 26 after five days on life support. His body was buried in the local graveyard after his funeral.

Mainul's father, Kamruul Islam, works as a muezzin at the East Khapaspur Jame Mosque in Faridpur, while his mother, Mahfuja Begum, is a housewife. Mainul was the eldest of three brothers.

The two younger brothers, Mostafizur Rahman and Mahamudul Hasan, are studying at a madrasa in Shibchar, Madaripur. Mainul was the only earning member of the family.

Mostafizur Rahman said, "We had many dreams about our brother. He used to bear the expenses of our education. Now who will give us the money for our education? I demand severe punishment for those who killed my brother."

The family of the martyr has received Tk 150,000 from the district Jamaat and Tk 50,000 for Mainul's wife, Maimuna Akter.

Mainul's mother, Mahfuja Begum, told Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, "My son was the only earning member of our family. We are a poor family, and he used to send money home. He had many dreams. He wanted to fulfill all my dreams and become a rich man. But now he is no more. I want justice for my son's death. Those who killed my son should be punished. If not in this world, then Allah will punish them. I want my son to be given the status of a martyr."

Mainul's father, Kamruul Islam, said, "On the day of the incident, I received a call saying my son had been shot and was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. I immediately went to the hospital and found my son bleeding and shivering with cold. I bought a blanket from a shop and covered him with it. He died five days later."

Kamruul Islam added, "Mainul was going to change our fortunes and alleviate our poverty. I had many dreams about him, but a single bullet shattered all my dreams. I have lost my child, and I know how painful it is to lose a child. I don't want anyone to suffer like me. I demand a proper investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible."
