জুলাই-আগস্ট ছাত্র-জনতার আন্দোলনে পঞ্চগড়ে শহিদ পাঁচজনের একজন সাজু মিয়া। ছেলের কথা মনে পড়লে এখনো ডুকরে কাঁদেন তার বাবা আজহার আলী। বিলাপ করে বলেন, ‘এমন যন্ত্রণাদায়ক মৃত্যু আর কারো না হোক, কোন দেশেই ফিরে না আসুক এমন জুলুম, নির্যাতনকারী স্বৈরাচার সরকার।’ শহিদ সাজু মিয়ার বাড়ি পঞ্চগড়ের দেবীগঞ্জ উপজেলার চিলাহাটি ইউনিয়নের টোকরাভাষা মিরপাড়া গ্রামে। চার ভাই-বোনের মধ্যে সাজু ছিলেন সবার বড়। তিনি গাজীপুরের একটি টেক্সটাইল মিলে চাকরি করে পরিবার চালাতেন। সেখানে থেকেই অংশ নেন আন্দোলনে। সাজু মিয়া (২৬) আন্দোলনের শুরুর দিকে ছিলেন নিজ এলাকাতেই। জুলাই মাসের ২৪ তারিখে সন্তান সম্ভবা স্ত্রীকে রেখে জীবিকার তাগিদে গাজীপুরে কর্মস্থলে ফিরে যান। একই মাসের ২৭ তারিখে স্ত্রীর কোল জুড়ে আসে এক ফুটফুটে ছেলে সন্তান। নাম রাখেন বৈষম্য বিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের প্রথম শহিদের নামানুসারে আবু সাঈদ। কে জানতো মাত্র ১৬ দিনের মাথায় নিজেও পাড়ি জমাবেন সেই আবু সাঈদের কাতারে। সন্তানের মুখ না দেখেই তাকে চলে যেতে হবে না ফেরার দেশে। সাজু মিয়ার বাবা আজহার আলী বলেন, আমার পরিবারের একমাত্র উপার্জনক্ষম ব্যক্তি ছিলো আমার ছেলে। জীবিকার জন্য ঢাকায় গিয়ে ফিরেছে লাশ হয়ে। আমার ছেলে তার সন্তানের মুখ দেখার জন্য হাসপাতালে ছটফট করেছিলো। কিন্তু দেখতে পেলো না। বারবার বলেছিলো- ‘আমি বাঁচবো না, আমার ছেলেকে একবার দেখতে চাই।’ আমরা তাকে তার ছেলের মুখ দেখাতে পারিনি, এ কথা বলেই কান্নায় ভেঙে পড়েন তিনি। কাঁদতে কাঁদতে আরো বলেন, ‘দেশকে মুক্ত করতে গিয়ে সাজু শহিদ হয়েছে। সান্ত্বনার জায়গা হলো আমার ছেলে অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে, ন্যায়ের পক্ষে ছিল। স্বৈরাচারের বিরুদ্ধে ছিল। তাদের আত্মত্যাগেই স্বৈরাচারের ভিত কেঁপেছে। হাসিনা পালিয়ে যেতে বাধ্য হয়েছে।’ জানা গেছে, শেখ হাসিনার পতনের দিন গত ৫ আগস্ট সরকারের পদত্যাগের দাবিতে গাজীপুরের মাওনা হতে একটি মিছিল বের হয়েছিল। সেই মিছিলে বন্ধুদের সাথে নিয়ে যোগ দিয়েছিলেন সাজু মিয়া। মাওনা থেকে ছাত্র-জনতা মিছিলটি নিয়ে গণভবনের দিকে রওনা হয়। ওই সময় পুলিশ এলোপাতাড়ি গুলি করতে থাকে। পুলিশের দুই দফা গুলি সাজুর পিঠে লাগে। এতে মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়েন তিনি। পরে পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক হলে তাকে উদ্ধার করে ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়। সেখানেই চিকিৎসারত অবস্থায় ১১ আগস্ট রাতে মারা যান তিনি। পরদিন সাজুর মরদেহ পঞ্চগড়ের বাড়িতে নিয়ে আসে তার পরিবার। জানাজা শেষে মাদ্রাসার পাশে পারিবারিক কবরস্থানে সাজুর মরদেহ দাফন করা হয়। সাজু মিয়া ২০১৫ সালে স্থানীয় একটি বিদ্যালয় থেকে এসএসসি পাশ করেন। এরপর অভাবের সংসারের হাল ধরতে টেক্সটাইল মিলে কাজ শুরু করেন। তিনি ডাকসুর সাবেক ভিপি নুরুল হক নুরের গণ অধিকার পরিষদের অঙ্গসংগঠন শ্রমিক অধিকার পরিষদের পঞ্চগড় জেলা কমিটির সহ-সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদকের দায়িত্বেও ছিলেন। এদিকে, সাজুর শহিদ হওয়ার ছয় মাস পেরিয়ে গেছে। তার ছেলে সন্তানও দিন দিন বড় হচ্ছে। কিন্তু দুশ্চিন্তা কাটছে না স্ত্রী শারমিন আক্তারের। স্বামীর স্মৃতিচারণ করতে গিয়ে ভেঙ্গে পড়েন তিনি। অনবরত ঝরতে থাকে চোখের পানি। তিনি বলেন, ছেলের জন্মের পর ফোনে বলেছিলো খুব দ্রুতই বাড়ি আসবো। বাবুর জন্য অনেক কিছু নিয়ে আসবো। কিন্তু ছেলেটাকে এক মুহূর্তের জন্যও কোলে নিতে পারেনি। দেখে যেতেও পারেনি। নাম রাখতে বলছিলো আবু সাঈদ। তখনও বুঝতে পারিনি এই নাম কেন রাখতে বলছে। দুঃখ একটাই বাবার স্নেহ ছাড়াই আমার ছেলেটা বড় হবে। আমি বিচার চাই, আমার স্বামীর খুনিদের বিচার চাই। সাজুর মা সামিনা খাতুন বলেন, হাসপাতালে থেকে ফোনে আমার ছেলে আমাকে বলেছিলো- কান্না করিও না মা, তোমার ছেলে শহিদ হবে। তুমি শহিদের মা হবা। শুধু আমার ছেলেকে দেখে রেখো। মানুষের মত মানুষ করো। শারমিনের বাবা রাবিব হাসান একজন ভ্যান চালক। আর্থিকভাবে খুবই দুর্বল। তিনি বলেন, ছোট সন্তান নিয়ে শারমিন এখন আমার বাড়িতে রয়েছে। শারমিন এক সন্তানের মা। মেয়ে ও তার ছোট সন্তানকে নিয়ে কিভাবে চলবো সেই চিন্তায় আমার দিনগুলো অস্থিরতার মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছে। কেউ যদি আমাদের পাশে দাঁড়াতো তাহলে আমরা বেঁচে যেতাম। পঞ্চগড় জেলা গণঅধিকার পরিষদের সভাপতি মাহফুজার রহমান বলেন, নবজাতক সন্তানের মুখ দেখারও সুযোগ পাননি আমাদের সহযোদ্ধা সাজু। ফ্যাসিস্ট সরকার পতনের জন্য নিজের জীবন দিয়ে আমাদেরকে ঋণী করে গেছেন। আমরা অনুরোধ করবো সকলেই যেন তার পরিবারের খোঁজ রাখেন। বর্তমান সরকারের কাছে আবেদন জুলাই-আগস্টের সকল হত্যাকাণ্ডের বিচার যেন দ্রুতই করা হয়। বৈষম্য বিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের পঞ্চগড়ের সমন্বয়ক ফজলে রাব্বী বলেন, প্রত্যেক শহিদই তার পরিবারের জন্য অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি। আমরা শহিদ পরিবারগুলোর খোঁজখবর রাখছি। তাদেরকে ইতোমধ্যে বিভিন্ন সহায়তা দিয়েছে সরকার। প্রশাসনেরও সুদৃষ্টি রয়েছে।

গত ০৫ আগস্ট ২০২৪ তারিখে বৈষম্য বিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়, আজ (১২ আগস্ট ২০২৪) ভোর রাত ০২.০০ ঘটিকায় ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল এ চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায় শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করে।

In July-August, student protests in Panchagarh martyred five people, including Saju Mia. Whenever Saju's father, Azhar Ali, thinks of his son, he still cries. With lamentation, he says, 'Such a painful death should not happen to anyone, and such oppression and torture by an autocratic government should not be repeated in any country.' The home of martyr Saju Mia is in Tokrabhasha Mirpara village, Chilahati Union, Debiganj Upazila, Panchagarh. Saju was the eldest of four siblings. He worked in a textile mill in Gazipur to support his family. He participated in the movement from there. Saju Mia, 26, was in his area at the beginning of the movement. On July 24, he left his pregnant wife and went to his workplace in Gazipur for livelihood. On July 27, his wife gave birth to a baby boy. They named him Abu Saeed, after the first martyr of the anti-discrimination student movement. Little did they know that just 16 days later, Saju would join Abu Saeed's ranks. Saju's father, Azhar Ali, says, 'My son was the only earning member of my family. He went to Dhaka for a living and returned as a corpse. My son was struggling to see his child's face in the hospital but could not. He repeatedly said, "I will not survive, I want to see my son's face once." We could not show him his son's face, and this thought still makes me cry.' Crying, he further says, 'Saju became a martyr to free the country. The only solace is that my son was against injustice, for justice, and against the autocratic government. Their sacrifice has shaken the foundation of the autocratic government, and Hasina has been forced to flee.' It is known that on August 5, the day of Sheikh Hasina's fall, a procession was organized in Gazipur's Mawna demanding the government's resignation. Saju Mia joined the procession with his friends. The procession started from Mawna towards Gonobhaban. At that time, the police fired indiscriminately. Two rounds of police gunfire hit Saju's back, and he fell to the ground. Later, when the situation became normal, he was rescued and admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. He died on August 11 while undergoing treatment. The next day, Saju's family brought his body to his home in Panchagarh. After the janaza, Saju was buried in the family graveyard near the madrasa. Saju Mia passed his SSC from a local school in 2015. Then, to support his family, he started working in a textile mill. He was also the joint organizing secretary of the Panchagarh district committee of the Workers' Rights Council, an affiliate organization of the Ganatantrik Adhikar Parishad, led by former Ducsu VP Nurul Haq Nur. Meanwhile, six months have passed since Saju's martyrdom. His son is also growing up day by day. But his wife, Sharmin Akhtar, is still worried. Remembering her husband, she breaks down in tears. She says, 'After the birth of our son, my husband said over the phone that he would come home soon and bring many things for our baby. But he could not even see his son's face once. He named our son Abu Saeed. I did not understand why he chose this name at that time. Now, my only sorrow is that my son will grow up without his father's love. I want justice, I want the trial of my husband's killers.' Saju's mother, Samina Khatun, says, 'From the hospital, my son told me over the phone, "Do not cry, mother, your son will be a martyr. You will be the mother of a martyr. Just take care of my son and raise him as a human being."' Sharmin's father, Rabiul Hasan, is a van driver and is very poor financially. He says, 'Sharmin is now living in my house with her small child. She is a mother of one child. I am worried about how I will manage with my daughter and her child. If someone stood by us, we could survive.' Mahfuzar Rahman, president of the Panchagarh District Human Rights Council, says, 'Our fellow fighter Saju did not even get to see his newborn child's face. He has indebted us by giving his life for the downfall of the fascist government. We request everyone to take care of his family. We will appeal to the current government to quickly try all the killings that took place in July-August.' Fazle Rabbi, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement in Panchagarh, says, 'Every martyr is an irreparable loss to their family. We are taking care of the martyr families and have already provided them with various assistance from the government. The administration is also paying attention to this matter.'

On August 5, 2024, he was shot in the anti-discrimination student movement, today (August 12, 2024) at 02.00 am, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College.
