২১ জুলাই মাধবদী উপজেলায় ঢাকা-সিলেট মহাসড়কের শেখেরচর মাজার বাসস্ট্যান্ড এলাকায় সংঘর্ষে মারা যান চারজন। সেদিন দুপুর সাড়ে ১২টার দিকে আশিকুল ইসলামও গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে মারা যান। মাধবদীর পৌলানপুর ফাজিল মাদ্রাসায় পড়ালেখা করলেও ২০২১ সালে অষ্টম শ্রেণি পর্যন্ত পড়ার পর লেখাপড়া ছেড়ে দেন আশিকুল। আগামী অক্টোবর মাসে তাঁর ব্রুনেইয়ে যাওয়ার কথা ছিল। সে জন্য সব প্রস্তুতিও সম্পন্ন করেছিল পরিবার।

পরিবারের সদস্যরা জানান, ২১ জুলাই সকাল সাড়ে ১০টার দিকে মা–বাবার সঙ্গে নাশতা করেন আশিকুল। পরে একসঙ্গে শুয়ে মায়ের সঙ্গে গল্পও করেন। তারপর হঠাৎ বাসা থেকে বের হয়ে যান। তখন বাইরে গন্ডগোল হচ্ছিল। এক বন্ধুর গুলি লেগেছে শুনে ছুটে গিয়ে তাঁকে হাসপাতালে পাঠান আশিকুল। সেখানে থেমে থেমে পুলিশ ও বিজিবির গুলি চলছিল।

আশিকুল ইসলামের মা সামছুন নাহার মুঠোফোনে প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘তখন আমার পোলারে ফোন করতে থাকি। তার দুইটা নম্বরেই ফোন করলে অন্য কেউ ধরছিল। তহন বলি, কেলা ফোন ধরো? আমার রাব্বি কই? তহন কোনো কথা নাই, বলে, “ইস্টিশনে আসেন, রাব্বি গুলি খাইছে।” তহন মনডার মধ্যে একটা শক্তি আইল, গুলি খাইলেও তো মানুষ বাঁচে।’ তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘ভিডিওতে দেখেছি, সেকেন্ডের মধ্যে শরীলডা (আশিকুলের) কালা হয়ে গেছে, মটারের পানি ছাড়লে যা হয়, সেইভাবে রক্ত গেছে। আমার ছেলে যহন গুলি খায়, ১৪ জনের মাঝখান থিকা গুলি তার বুকেই লাগে। তখন ভয় পায়া অন্যরা সবাই চইলা যায়। তহন আমার পুত বুকে ধইর‍্যা মাডিতে পড়ে যায়। ১০-১৫ মিনিট পর লোকজন আইসা হাসপাতালে নেওয়ার পর মৃত ঘোষণা করে। মাঠে পইড়্যা থাহনের সময়ই আমার পুতরে আল্লায় কবুল কইর‍্যালছে।’

আহাজারি করে সামছুন নাহার বলেন, ‘আমার একটা ধনই ছিল। এই পোলা নিয়েই কত আশা, কত স্বপ্ন দেখছি। বাপেরে কইতো, “আমি বিদেশে যাইতে পারলে তোমার মেশিন চালাইতে অইতো না।” আমার কী যে ধন ছিল, আল্লায় জানে আর আমি জানি। এর বিচার আল্লায় করবো।’

আশিকুল ইসলামের বাবা আবদুল খালেক সরকার বলেন, ‘ছেলেরে বিদেশে পাঠানোর সব ব্যবস্থা করছিলাম। সামনের মাসেই বিদেশে যাওয়ার কথা। বুকের ডানদিকে একটা গুলিই লাগছিল। সেই গুলিই সব শেষ করে দিছে।’ তিনি বলেন, ‘মনে করেছিলাম ছেলের লাশ বাড়িত নিয়া আমার আম্মা–আব্বার কবরের পাশে দাফন করবো। কিন্তু সবাই বলছে, নেওয়ার মতো পরিস্থিতি নাই। গন্ডগোলের কারণে অ্যাম্বুলেন্সও পাওয়া যাচ্ছিল না। রাস্তাঘাটের অবস্থা ভালো ছিল না। পরিস্থিতি ভালো না থাকার কারণে বাড়িতে নিতে পারি নাই।’

ছেলে হত্যার ঘটনায় আবদুল খালেক বাদী হয়ে নরসিংদী আদালতে একটি মামলা করেছেন জানিয়ে বলেন, ‘আমার কষ্ট কমাবে, এমন আশা ছিল ছেলের। কিন্তু আমারে কষ্টের দরিয়ায় রেখে চলে গেছে সে।’

On July 21, four people were killed in clashes in Sheikharchar Mazar bus stand area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabdi upazila. Ashikul Islam was also shot and killed around 12:30 pm that day. Although Ashikul studied at Pauranpur Fazil Madrasa in Madhabdi, he stopped studying after completing eighth grade in 2021. He was supposed to go to Brunei in October, and his family had already completed all the preparations.

Family members said that on the morning of July 21, around 10:30 am, Ashikul had breakfast with his parents and even chatted with his mother while lying down together. Then, he suddenly left the house. At that time, there was chaos outside. After hearing that a friend had been shot, Ashikul rushed him to the hospital. There, police and BGB were intermittently firing.

Ashikul Islam's mother, Samchun Nahar, told Prothom Alo over the phone, "I kept calling my son, but someone else was picking up his two numbers. I asked, 'Who's this? Where's my son?' The person replied, 'Come to the police station, your son has been shot.'" She continued, "At that moment, I felt a surge of strength, thinking that even if he's been shot, people can survive." She also said, "I saw in the video that within seconds, my son's body turned black, and blood was gushing out like water from a fountain. When my son was shot, the bullet hit him in the chest, and everyone else ran away in fear. My son fell to the ground, clutching his chest. After 10-15 minutes, people took him to the hospital, where he was declared dead. My son had died on the spot, and Allah had already accepted him."

Sobbing, Samchun Nahar said, "My only treasure was my son. I had so many hopes and dreams for him. I told his father, 'If I could go abroad, I wouldn't have to struggle to run the machine.' Only Allah and I know what my treasure was. I will seek justice from Allah." Ashikul Islam's father, Abdul Khalek Sarkar, said, "I was making arrangements to send my son abroad. He was supposed to leave next month. The bullet that hit him was the one that ended everything." He added, "I had thought of burying my son's body next to my parents' graves. But everyone said it wasn't possible due to the unrest. We couldn't even get an ambulance because of the chaos, and the roads were in bad condition. We couldn't bring the body home because of the situation."

Abdul Khalek Sarkar, who has filed a case with the Narsingdi court as the plaintiff over his son's murder, said, "My son had hoped to alleviate my suffering, but he has left me in a sea of sorrow instead."
