শহীদ জসীম ১৯৮২ সালের ১ মার্চ শেরপুর জেলার শ্রীবরদী উপজেলার মাটিয়াকুড়া গ্রামের এক দরিদ্র পরিবারে জন্ম গ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর পিতা মরহুম আবুল কাশেম, মাতা সুরুজ বানু। ছোটবেলা থেকে সংসারের কষ্ট দেখে বড় হয়েছেন। বিয়ের পর জীবীকার তাগিদে স্ত্রী ও সন্তানদের নিয়ে ঢাকায় পাড়ি জমান। সেখানে উত্তরার নিকটবর্তী দক্ষিণখান পশ্চিম মোল্লারটেক এলাকায় একটি টিনের বাসায় এক রুম ভাড়া নিয়ে পরিবারকে নিয়ে বেঁধেছিলেন সুখের সংসার। জসীমের মা দীর্ঘদিন ধরে অসুস্থ। দুর্ঘটনাজনিত কারণে ভাঙ্গা পা নিয়েই পর নির্ভরশীল হয়ে জীবনযাপন করছেন। শাহাদাতের পূর্বে শহীদ জসীম পেশায় একজন রিকশা চালক ছিলেন। ভাঁড়ায় রিকশা চালিয়ে দুই পরিবারের ভরণপোষণ ও মায়ের চিকিৎসা খরচ মেরাতেন। পরিবারের সদস্য নয় জন। প্রথম স্ত্রী উশেদা বেগমের সংসারে রয়েছে মো: রাসেল মিয়া(২৮) ও আকাশ মিয়া(২৫) নামে দুইটি ছেলে সন্তান। তারা পেশায় শ্রমিক। অন্যদিকে দ্বিতীয় স্ত্রী ফরিদা বেগমের দুই ছেলে ও দুই মেয়ে নিয়ে বসবাস। সংসারের হাল ধরতে তিনি গৃহকর্মীর কাজও করেন। বড়ো ছেলে রুবেল(২২) দিনমজুর। যখন যে কাজ আসে তাই করেন। ছোট ছেলে মো: ফরহাদ (৭) স্থানীয় বাইতুন নূর মাদরাসায় নূরানি বিভাবে অধ্যয়নরত। মেয়েদ্বয় যথাক্রমে ফাহিমা(১৭) বিবাহিত ও হালিমা(৫)। আন্দোলন ও শাহাদাত
Cause
৫ আগস্ট ২০২৪, রোজ সোমবার। খুনি হাসিনার পালিয়ে যাওয়ার খবর শুনে সারাদেশে অসংখ্য মানুষ বিজয় মিছিলে অংশ গ্রহণ করে। তেমনি শহীদ জসীম বিকাল ৩.০০টায় বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্রজনতার ডাকা আন্দোলনে অংশ নিতে উত্তরার জসিম উদ্দিন রোড সংলগ্ন মোড়ে উপস্থিত হন। সেদিন ফ্যসিস্ট হাসিনা দেশ ছেড়ে পালিয়ে গেলেও তার কুকর্মের অনুসারীদের রেখে যায়। একপর্যায়ে বিজয় মিছিলকে প্রতিহত করতে রেজিম হাসিনার পালিত আইন-শৃঙ্খলার বিভিন্ন ঘাতক বাহিনীরা(পুলিশ, র্যাব, বিজিবি, আনসার, সেনাবাহিনী) ও আওয়ামী সন্ত্রাস নেতাকর্মীরা উত্তরাসহ সারাদেশে হত্যাযজ্ঞ চালানোর দুঃসাহস দেখায়। তারা দেশীয় ও অন্যান্য অস্ত্র ব্যবহার করে নিরিহ জনতার উপর নৃশংসভাবে গুলি চালায়। এলোপাথাড়ি ছোড়া সেসব গুলিতে সেদিন অনেকেই শাহাদাত বরণ করেন। বিকাল ৩.৩০ মিনিট। মিছিলে স্লোগান দিতে দিতে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছেন জসীম। হঠাৎ আওয়ামী পুলিশ ও যুবলীগের ছোড়া দুটি বুলেট বিকট শব্দে তার দুই পায়ের উরুতে এসে বিদ্ধ হয়। মূহূর্তেই তিনি মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়েন। রক্তে ভেসে যায় রাজপথ। প্রাথমিকভাবে প্রচণ্ড গুলি আর টিয়ারশেলের মুখে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে উদ্ধার করা সম্ভব হয়নি এই লড়াকু সৈনিককে। পরবর্তীতে কিছুটা গোলাগুলি কমলে জসিমকে উদ্ধার করে ক্রিসেন্ট হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। চিকিৎসকেরা তখন হাজারও গুলিবিদ্ধ আহত বীরদের চিকিৎসা করছিলেন। এমতবস্থায় তারা দীর্ঘক্ষণ রক্ত বন্ধ করার চেষ্টা চালায়। তবুও এই তেজস্বীকে বাঁচানো সম্ভব হয়নি। সন্ধ্যা ৭.০০ টার দিকে হাসপাতালের বেডে চিকিৎসারত অবস্থায় নিজ পরিবার ও প্রিয় জন্মভুমিকে ছেড়ে শাহাদাতের শুধা পান করেন এই অমর যোদ্ধা। পরদিন ৬ আগস্ট ২০২৪, মঙ্গলবার শেরপুর জেলার শ্রীবরদী উপজেলার মাটিয়াকুড়া নিজ গ্রামের মসজিদ প্রাঙ্গণে শহীদ জসীমের জানাজা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। জানাজা শেষে তাকে পারিবারিক কবরস্থানে চিরনিদ্রায় সমাহিত করা হয়।

Shahid Jasim was born on March 1, 1982, in a poor family in Matiyakura village of Sreebardi upazila in Sherpur district. His father was the late Abul Kalam, and his mother was Suruj Banu. He grew up witnessing the hardships of his family from a young age. After marriage, due to the pressure of livelihood, he moved to Dhaka with his wife and children. There, he built a happy family by renting a room in a tin-roofed house in the Dakhshinkhan MollarTek area near Uttara. Jasim's mother has been suffering from illness for a long time. Due to an accident, she has been unable to move around and has been dependent on others for her daily needs. Before his death, Shahid Jasim was a rickshaw puller by profession. He used to drive a rickshaw on rent and bear the expenses of his two families and his mother's medical treatment. There are nine members in his family. His first wife, Usheda Begum, has two sons named Mohammad Russell Mia (28) and Akash Mia (25), who work as laborers. On the other hand, his second wife, Farida Begum, has two sons and two daughters. To support his family, he also worked as a house helper. His eldest son, Rubel (22), is a day laborer who does any job he can find. His younger son, Mohammad Farhad (7), is studying at the local Baitun Nur Madrasa in the Nurani department. His two daughters are Fahima (17), who is married, and Halima (5).
Cause
On August 5, 2024, a Monday, after hearing the news of the murderer Hasina's escape, countless people across the country participated in victory processions. Similarly, on the same day, at 3:00 pm, Shahid Jasim attended a gathering called by the anti-discriminatory student population on Uttara's Jasim Uddin Road intersection to take part in the movement. Although fascist Hasina fled the country that day, she left behind her followers who were committed to her evil deeds. At one point, to thwart the victory procession, the various deadly forces of the regime (police, RAB, BGB, Ansar, and the army) and Awami terrorist leaders and workers showed the audacity to carry out a massacre across the country, including Uttara. They used local and other weapons to brutally fire at the innocent population. Many people were martyred that day due to the indiscriminate firing. At 3:30 pm, while marching forward chanting slogans, Jasim was suddenly hit by two bullets fired by Awami police and Jubo League, which pierced both his thighs. In an instant, he fell to the ground. The streets were flooded with blood. Due to the intense gunfire and tear shells, it was not possible to rescue this brave soldier immediately. Later, when the chaos subsided a bit, Jasim was rescued and taken to Crescent Hospital. The doctors were then treating thousands of brave warriors who were injured by bullets. In such a situation, they tried to stop the bleeding for a long time. However, it was not possible to save this radiant personality. At around 7:00 pm, he attained martyrdom while undergoing treatment at the hospital, leaving behind his family and beloved homeland. The next day, on August 6, 2024, a Tuesday, the funeral of Shahid Jasim was held at the mosque premises in his native village of Matiyakura, SriBardi Upazila, Sherpur District. After the funeral, he was buried in the family graveyard.
